Canada's Provincial Nominee Program
Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program offers an opportunity to settle in Canada. The Provincial Nominee Program allows provinces and territories to nominate qualified persons for Canadian Permanent Residency. PNP also gives applicants an additional 600 CRS points when they enter the Express Entry pool. Several PNP programs have also given letters of interest to candidates with CRS scores less than 400. Canada Provincial Nominee Program
The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) permits persons to relocate to a certain province or territory in Canada. Candidates must apply exclusively in the province or area where they wish to emigrate. Ensure that you have all of the necessary abilities, work experience, and educational credentials for the jobs available in that province or territory.
The province or territory will determine if you meet their employment market standards. If they consider your profile satisfactory, they will let you know how long it will take to complete your application.
Once the territory or province has approved your application, you must apply for permanent residency within the time limit specified. You will also be advised whether you must apply using the Express Entry system or the standard application process.
- Through an Express Entry PNP path: If you have not yet enrolled in the Express Entry pool, you must first complete an Express Entry profile before being accepted. If not, you can start it via the Government of Canada portal.
- Through a non-Express Entry PNP path: Applicants for permanent residency nominated through a non-Express Entry PNP stream must apply through the usual application procedure.
Highlights of the Provincial Nominee Program
Canada has almost 80 different PNPs, each with its unique qualifying conditions. The PNP program enables provinces to achieve their immigration needs by assisting them in filling in-demand job vacancies and eliminating labor shortages in their area.
Most PNPs require candidates to have a link to the province. They should have already worked or studied in that province. Alternatively, they must have a legitimate employment offer from a province-based business to get a work visa.
A provincial nomination can help you obtain a PR visa in two ways. It can increase your Express Entry application by 600 CRS points, allowing you to apply for your PR visa straight to IRCC.
Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Overview
The Canada Provincial Nominee Program was established to attract skilled foreign talent to work in Canada’s provinces with a skills shortage. The PNP program has helped thousands of successful candidates migrate and live permanently in Canada. Some of the greatest Canadian provinces to apply to through this program include:
Ontario PNP Program
Ontario uses the OINP to nominate foreign workers, international students, company owners, or entrepreneurs who have the necessary skills, experience, education, and purpose to settle in the province as permanent residents.
Alberta PNP Program
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program, formerly known as the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP), consists of eight streams categorized into two primary categories: workers and entrepreneurs. The province nominates foreign nationals who satisfy program-specific criteria and exhibit a desire to live in the prairie province.
Manitoba PNP Program
Manitoba’s provincial immigration policy is divided into streams meant to nominate talented people and their families who want to work and reside in the province permanently. The MPNP is presently being renewed.
Saskatchewan PNP Program
The SINP is Saskatchewan’s specialized immigration program for selecting and nominating qualified foreign nationals via a variety of channels, including the program’s main International Skilled Worker: Express Entry and Occupation In-Demand categories.
British Columbia PNP Program
The BC PNP is made up of three streams: skills immigration, express entry BC, and entrepreneur immigration. These streams are organized into groups aimed at skilled workers, overseas graduates, and other professionals with the skills, experience, and qualifications required in British Columbia.
Nova Scotia PNP Program
The NSNP is Nova Scotia’s program for nominating qualified skilled workers, foreign graduates, entrepreneurs, and professionals who wish to live permanently in the province. The program offers a variety of economic immigration streams, including three that are compatible with Canada’s Express Entry system.
Prince Edward Island PNP Program
The PEI PNP is the island province’s economic immigration program for skilled workers, foreign graduates, and entrepreneurs who want to live and work in PEI and have the potential to create an economic presence there.
New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP)
The NBPNP is New Brunswick’s provincial immigration program, featuring streams targeting entrepreneurs, foreign graduates, skilled workers with employer support, and skilled workers under the federal government’s Express Entry system.
Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP)
The NLPNP accepts immigration applications from skilled workers, foreign graduates, and entrepreneurs who fulfill program-specific requirements such as a job or job offer, intent to live, and the potential to build an economic presence in the province.
Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP)
The Northwest Territories allows economic immigration applications to settle in Northern Canada through two primary streams: Employer Driven and Business, each with three separate streams, including an Express Entry-aligned route for skilled workers.
Yukon Nominee Program (YNP)
The Yukon’s official provincial immigration program supports qualifying companies in Canada’s northern territory in nominating globally skilled foreign workers and businessmen for Canadian permanent residency.
If you are an experienced professional with expertise in technology, finance, education, marketing, or healthcare, now is the time to think about your choices through the PNP program.
You can apply to move to Canada through the PNP option if you desire to live in a province, contribute to its economy, and become a permanent citizen.

Options in the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
When applying through the PNP program, you have two options:
- PNP Non-Express Entry stream
- PNP Through Express Entry
PNP Non-Express Entry Stream
The first step is to apply to the province or territory for nomination in the Non-Express Entry category. If your occupation is on the province’s separate In-demand Occupation Lists and you match the minimum eligibility requirements, you will be nominated. You can then apply for a Canada Permanent Resident Visa.
You will now need to submit a paper application for your PR visa. Processing time is generally longer than using the Express Entry method.
PNP Through Express Entry
There are two methods to apply.
You can apply for a nomination by contacting the province or territory or through the Express Entry program. If you receive a favourable answer from the province or territory to nominate, you can build or update your Express Entry profile.
The alternative option is to set up a show Entry profile and show interest in certain provinces or territories. If the province gives you a ‘notification of interest’, you can contact them and apply using the Express Entry system.
To get your application processed successfully, you must fulfill the eligibility conditions.
Steps to apply for the Provincial Nominee Program for PR Visa
- Apply in the province or region where you want to settle.
- If your profile matches the eligibility requirements, the province may nominate you to apply for a permanent residence visa.
- Apply for your PR visa after being nominated by a province.
The requirements for considering PR applications vary per province.
